How to Allow Only Admins to Send Messages in a Telegram Group

By default, all participants in a Telegram group can send messages. However, as an admin, you can restrict messaging to admins only.
This guide shows you how to do it on Android, iPhone, Telegram Web, and Desktop.
Restrict Messaging to Admins on Telegram (Android)
- Open the Telegram app.
- Go to the group chat and tap its name at the top.
- Tap the Pencil icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Permissions (between Reactions and Invite Links).
- Turn off the Send Messages option to prevent members from sending messages.
- Tap the Tick icon to save your changes.
Now, only admins can send messages to the group.
To revert:
- Follow the same steps, but turn on the Send Messages option.
- Tap the Tick icon to save.
You can also selectively allow participants to:
- Send Media
- Send Stickers & GIFs
- Send Polls
- Embed Links
Restrict Messaging to Admins on Telegram (iPhone)
- Open the Telegram app.
- Go to the group chat and tap its name at the top.
- Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
- Select Permissions (between Members and Administrators).
- Turn off the Send Messages option to restrict messaging.
- Tap Back and then Done to save.
Now, only admins can send messages to the group.
To revert:
- Follow the same steps, but turn on the Send Messages option.
- Tap Back and then Done to save.
Like on Android, you can also enable options to allow participants to:
- Send Media
- Send Stickers & GIFs
- Send Polls
- Embed Links
Restrict Messaging to Admins on Telegram (Web or Desktop)
For Telegram Desktop
- Open the Telegram Desktop app.
- Go to the group chat and click its name at the top.
- Click the three vertical dots in the popup and select Manage Group.
- Go to Permissions and turn off the Send Messages option.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
For Telegram Web
- Open Telegram Web.
- Go to the group chat and click its name at the top.
- In the right sidebar, click the Pencil icon.
- Select Permissions and turn off the Send Messages option.
- Click the Back arrow to save.
Now, only admins can send messages to the group.
To revert:
- Follow the same steps, but turn on the Send Messages option.
- Save your changes by clicking Save (Desktop) or the Back arrow (Web).
As with the mobile versions, you can enable permissions for participants to:
- Send Media
- Send Stickers & GIFs
- Send Polls
- Embed Links
